Blackberry Torch : An Overview

RIM’s Blackberry Torch is a marked improvement over the Blackberries of past. With increased processor speed, web-browsing capabilities, and multiple usability improvements, this phone is a new best-in-class offering that’s bound to impress even users of other phone platforms.

The first thing that you’ll notice about the Blackberry Torch is that it has a brand new web browser. With its new browsing format, RIM has brought its browsing capability up to what the other manufacturers have to offer. The browsing is usually adequately fast, and you’re able to zoom and use the multitouch screen very handily. When you’re pressing and holding a link, they’re easy to open, bookmark, or even email. However, like other phone platforms, there is no Flash support.

The Torch’s 624 MHz processor is also more than adequate, and it enables you to accomplish almost any task with ease. From rendering web pages to watching video, the processor is fast enough to handle most all of the tasks you throw at it. It doesn’t matter if you’re checking your email, watching vids, or browsing the web, the Torch does its job and does it well with the processing speed available.

One very cool feature that’s worth mentioning is the universal search tool that’s on the homescreen. Using the search tool, you can find almost anything you want on the phone or web. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a contact or looking for a website, you can do it through the search tool on the home screen. Also the Blackberry’s Maps application works seamlessly with the built in GPS. The performance of the GPS actually rivals that of Google maps on Android phones.

Another feature worth mention is the five-megapixel camera. With it you can take high definition pictures and store them on the phone. You can even record 640×480 video clips on the phone and then store them. Whatever you want to do with your videos or pictures, there’s are at least some options on the Blackberry Torch.

In short, the Blackberry Torch is a well rounded phone with a slide out keyboard. It’s got good smartphone capabilities, especially the universal search button. The processing speed is adequate, and the video capture and picture capability is just right. The multitouch screen is what we’ve come to expect from smartphones, and finally the internet capability is up to speed on the Blackberry like it is on other Android or iPhones.
