HTC Wildfire: A Cheap Android Smartphone

The HTC Wildfire is an entry level Android smartphone. At first glance the phone looks good, with design cues borrowed from the HTC Desire and Google Nexus (also manufactured by HTC). The Wildfire comes in four diverse colors - brown, black, red, and also white. Make sure you specify your color when you approve HTC Wildfire deals. HTC has cut corners to keep the price of the Wildfire low and sadly this is all too apparent. Still, there are hardly any mobile phone deals that may match up its price point feature for feature.

From a distance the HTC Wildfire is attractive but the defects are obvious as soon as you pick it up. The build quality is average and also the plastic material feels cheap and tacky. It has a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, a 3.2 inch touch screen display, Bluetooth, GPS, loudspeaker, and other standard features. HTC didn’t use an AMOLED screen but opted for a standard LCD, again cutting corners wheresoever possible. The 3.2 inch display features a resolution of 320 by 240 which is somewhat low by current standards.

The hardware is driven by a 528 Mhz Qualcomm processor and it has 384 MB of system Ram memory. The old processor and lack of a graphics unit definitely makes the phone slow and it is apparent when multitasking. The phone runs Android 2.1 and features the HTC sense UI. However you can speed up things by limiting unnecessary features particularly interface eye candy.

The Wildfire also offers inbuilt GPS and since it’s Android based, there is good integration with Google maps. The standard Android browser has built in support for flash. Video performance is ordinary and the phone struggles to play 720p videos. The camera on the Wildfire is average for a 5 megapixel unit and shoots satisfactory photos. However, Low light performance is poor. The included battery is a 1300 mAh unit and provides decent talktime on both 2G and 3G networks.

The HTC wildfire is a usable phone and has a fair set of features. If performance is what you desire, you should stay clear of HTC Wildfire deals and instead spend more on feature rich mobile phone deals.
