The bottom line about the BCG10PP: It’s identical to the one that ships with the Panasonic ZS3 and behaves just like it.

On buying the BCG10PP: In mid-June, when I needed a spare battery for my Panny ZS3 (because the camera’s battery life is so-so and I didn’t want to run out of juice with no backup at hand), the BCG10PP was nearly impossible to find. Panasonic.com didn’t sell them, and none of the resellers the site recommended had them in stock. I ended up finding it on Amazon, via one third-party reseller. Since he seemed to be the only one on the planet to carry the battery, I was charged (no pun intended) an arm and a leg for it. Supply and demand, they call this phenomenon.

I’m happy to see more resellers now have this battery in stock and the price has come down significantly. I hope it continues like this and that soon it’ll be very easy to find.

One word of advice: If you’re planning to get a cheaper third-party battery (a BCG10PP compatible model, but not manufactured by Panasonic), do not update the ZS3’s firmware. The update addresses original vs. not original batteries and you’ll only be able to use the Panasonic battery after installing it.

Beware of sellings selling this battery. The photo clearly shows it is listed as DMW-BCG10PP. This is what I needed for my Panasonic DMC-ZS3 camera.

After careful checking I found this listing and ordered this battery, or so I thought!

The battery arrived with this comment on the packing slip:

“This is DMW-BCG10E, new in the box, shipping same day. It is not DMW-BCG10PP. You can return, but refund only the product, not the postage”

It is great that seller kohno1 can ship the same day new in box a batter, but it is not the battery I see the picture and it is not the battery I ordered!

I tried to put this battery in my camera and sure enough it said this battery cannot be used.

When I order online, if I see a picture that matches what I’m looking for, down to the exact model number, this is what I expect to receive, not some other replacement that they just happen to have in stock hoping I would not notice or care!

I do not go to McDonalds and order a Big Mac, only to be served a hot dog, and told I can return for a refund except the tax, service fee and bun!

So in total I will be out the shipping to me and the shipping back or about $10. Not because of any fault of my own, only because this seller showed one batter in the picture and knowly send a different battery. (why else would they be so specific in their packing slip comments to say they were shipping a different battery!?)

I see now they have listed this product as out of stock! wow, I sure wish they could have marked it out of stock and saved me the hassle, and cost of shipping the wrong batter back!

That’s what your camera will say after you fully charge this battery and insert it. THIS BATTERY IS A FRAUD. It comes in a Panasonic Package, it says Panasonic on it, but the firmware doesn’t lie. THIS IS FRAUD. AMAZON SHOULD PULL THIS COMPANY FROM THE SITE IMMEDIATELY.

As you will see from several other reviews, the battery that ships is not the one featured on the page. I instead received the DMW-BCG10 from the outside merchant, Inspiretech / Clear AV. It has to be returned to the merchant, not Amazon, and the merchant claims they will not refund shipping. I am assuming Amazon will refund my shipping, then, because I am certainly not paying for their error, and may I add an error that CONTINUES to exist after others have experienced the same fraud. This is an unnecessary hassle I have to deal with now, because Amazon didn’t handle it after the first person experienced the screw-up. Thanks a lot.

Update - though the wrong battery, the seller was very prompt about full refund along with a prepaid shipping label.

Expected & was very clear about ordering a DMW-BCG10PP (via Inspiretech), received a DMW-BCG10E. This battery DOES NOT work with the new DMC-ZS3! Even spent 45 minutes on the phone with 3 different Panasonic departments to make sure.
