The Online World Has the Gift Ideas You’ve Been Searching For

I’m a little embarassed to admit this, but I am a gift giving catastrophe waiting to happen.  No, I don’t stumble and break them before giving.  My problem is that I have an impossible time deciding.  I’m just plain terrible at coming up with original gift ideas.  My solution, as you may have guessed by now, is the Internet.

The Internet is full of the usual and the unusual when it comes to gift suggestions.  Now I realize that everyone is out to make a buck, but that doesn’t bother me in the least.  I’d actually be willing to pay someone just to make the decision for me, so why not buy their products if they can come up with good ideas.  In my country, that’s the patriotic way to look at it!

Is there anyplace other than the online world where I might be inspired to get my mother a New York cheesecake instead of the same boring chocolate cake I usually sent her?  Fortunately, I can stretch this one idea out for many years simply by changing the flavor of cheesecake from one birthday to the next.

My daughter, who apparently gets her creative gift giving skills from me, found a bracelet idea for her grandmother (on the good side of the family–not mine).  While it turned out well for her, it made me jealous!

You can find gift ideas by searching for age groups, say teenagers (with whom I most the most trouble) and children.  You can also use a search engine to find articles recommending gifts of all the gift giving occasions from Christmas to Bar Mitzvahs, from anniversaries to house warmings, or even those holidays when nobody seems to really know the origin, such as Sweetest Day or St. Astor’s day or Siamese kitten day.  You can even search by the category of the item that you want to give.  You might be inventive enough to know that you want to buy Cousin Martha a scarf, so you can check out which ones are most popular or unique or are the greenest.  You might know that you want to buy your neighbor some accessory for his newly restored 1957 Chevy convertible.  You can actually search for that sort of thing.  The possibilities are mind boggling for me.

Indeed, there are entire websites created for gift klutzes just like me where people publish ideas.  It seems that they have so many ideas they can afford to give them away.  If you happen to be one of those sorts of blessed people with too many ideas to use yourself, consider sharing them with me so that I can steal them from you and take the credit.  Just publish them online.  You can count on my everlasting appreciation.
